I'm happy to report that the server has now been running very smoothly for over 2 full business days (the load is generally highest during 9-5 standard business hours, as you would imagine).
I'll continue to monitor it closely and will send status notices daily for the next few days.
In addition, I thought it might be of interest to see a visual representation of how these two incidents impacted the server load; see the following chart covering the past two weeks:

As you can see, the load prior to both of these incidents was considerably higher overall; the hardware replacement as well as numerous setting/configuration changes seems to have worked wonders on that front, as well as (hopefully) resolving the excessive load issues themselves.
